About Me
I was born in Whitehaven in June 1994 and have lived in West Cumbria ever since. Born 10 weeks early I spent the first weeks of my life in Special Care before being able to come home at five weeks old. I'm currently a father to 2 amazing little girls and married to my fantastic wife Lynsey who is supportive of my sports work as well as my current full time job as Customer Advisor in the Utilities industry.
I have been a freelance journalist covering Rugby League since the age of 17 while still in education starting by covering Whitehaven for League Weekly in 2011. While I didn't attend university following the conclusion of my post-16 education it did not hamper my desire of getting into sports media and continued to work for League Weekly and started joining BBC Radio Cumbria's coverage of Rugby League initially working as a summariser alongside then main Whitehaven commentator John Cox.
This work gave me the opportunity of working solo for the station providing mainly updates from Whitehaven games in 2014. A re-jigging of the team at the end of the season seen that come to and end but I continued working for League Weekly as well a number of other publications including current work for League Express and Newsquest.
In 2019 I started working with BBC Radio Cumbria once again providing coverage for Cumbria's National Conference League sides on their flagship Saturday afternoon sports show in a role which I'm still continuing to this day.
As Rugby League started to return from the covid pandemic in 2021 which decimated lower tier professional Rugby League in 2020 I was part of Rugby Football League's OurLeague Coverage for Whitehaven's home fixture vs Newcastle Thunder.
Alongside my work covering the NCL sides for BBC Radio Cumbria I got more opportunities providing full match commentaries for Whitehaven Rugby League as they finished a magical season which seen them reach the play-offs. This included providing my voice as they went on a fantastic run defeating former World Champions Widnes Vikings and Bradford Bulls. Alongside this I covered my first football fixtures covering NPL sides Workington Reds & Kendal Town.
For the 2022 season I was offered the position of commentator covering Whitehaven games home and away for BBC Radio Cumbria as they provide full online commentaries via BBC digital channels.
